Meet your photographer – a little about me
Hi! I’m Angela (although most people call me Ange). I’m a southside Canberra girl (I moved here almost 20 years ago for work and never left), and I’m truly fortunate to have an amazing hubby and two adorable (though slightly nutty) whippet pups. I’ve studied degrees in journalism, public relations and history, and have (in a previous life) been a radio journalist in a number of capital cities and overseas.
I value the time and money you invest in your professional photographs. It’s important to meet your photographer so you know why taking beautiful images is so important to me.
While I’ve been in Canberra now for almost 20 years, I actually grew up in a small country town in northern NSW, in a street that will always be home to me, and the inspiration behind the name of my business.
Childhood memories
So, why call my business Oliver Street Photography?
Because it’s a connection to the wonderful memories I have of growing up in the street of that name in my hometown.
The school friends who are still my besties decades later. Saturdays spent listening to Top 40 songs on the radio as a teenager. Braving the prickles to pick kilos of blackberries in the summer. And, most importantly, the rich memories of my wonderful family.
Mum and Dad took photos of us as we grew up with an old Kodak Brownie camera – the ‘point-and-shoot’ (or should that be ‘point and pray’) sort, that always kept you guessing on whether you actually got a good shot until the film came back (and 9 times out of 10 they were pretty average).
But while they are a bit rough (and occasionally out of focus), I absolutely treasure these snapshots of my early life. The ones of me and my Dad bring a tear to the eye as he’s been gone now for 8 years, and the photos of my childhood bring him back so vividly.
Photography is my opportunity to give something back. It’s about giving you the chance to create and keep your own memories for years to come. Of capturing you and your family’s personalities as well as your images. Of being able to look back at the most important people in your life in future years, as they were back then.
