So, you’re considering a photo session, but you’ve never done it before. And you’re wondering, ‘How does it all work?’.

There’s a few things to consider.

A photo session—whether it’s an engagement, wedding, newborn, or family session—isn’t just about the ‘day of’. Understanding what happens—before and after your session—will help make it a smoother and more positive experience. Just as it should be!

Depending on the type of photos you want, the process can start well before the day of your session. There’s also a post-production process, where I select the best images to edit. I can also arrange for your favourite images to be printed.

I’m passionate about creating a truly personal experience for my clients—and that starts with you! Here’s a step-by-step look at the process:

Getting started

  • If you are considering a professional photo session, keep a record of images you like from social media or the internet. Apps like Pinterest are fantastic to collate ideas on locations, poses, props, and general styling.
  • Reach out and start a conversation! Get in touch and we can chat about your ideas and what you are looking for in a photo session. This is a great time to ask questions and look through my image portfolio. If you’ve found some great inspiration, share these ideas with me!

Booking your session

  • If you are happy to proceed, we’ll work together to nail down those all-important logistics: location, date and time. We’ll also talk through what to wear, potential poses, and any props you’ll need to create the look you have in mind.
  • I’ll send you a contract that outlines the expectations on both sides of working together. This makes sure everyone is on the same page. It also covers things like rescheduling your session, what happens in the event of illness or unforeseen circumstances, and when and how you’ll get your images. It’s an important part of the process and the session can’t go ahead without this agreement.
  • Once the contract is signed and you’ve paid your session fee, you’re officially booked in!
  • After your booking is confirmed, you’ll get an info pack that runs through some other details to help you prepare for the day, including tips on what to wear.
  • I’ll give you a call before the day of your shoot to check you’re ready for your session and see if you have any further questions.

On the day of your photo session

  • I’ll either give you a call or send you a text message on the day to check everyone is well and you’re still on track to meet up.
  • When you are at your session, remember to have fun! Being able to relax, laugh and be yourself as much as possible during your session really shines through in final photos.

After your photo session

  • The next step is editing! I’ll take the best images from your session and hand-edit them to bring out the best.
  • I’ll post a few to my social accounts the day after your session as a bit of a ‘sneak peek’, which you are welcome to share to your own accounts.
  • Once I’ve finished editing the rest of your gallery, I’ll upload them to your private online gallery. From there, you can select the ones you like best to include in a package of your choice. I can also arrange for your images to be printed and framed if there’s one or two that really take your eye! This is done through a professional photographic print lab to ensure the colours are true to form (I can tell you, I’ve had an image of my husband professionally printed and framed and it looks AMAZING! It’s definitely worth it for the special ones!)

At any point, if you have questions, please ask me! I want it to be a great experience, and good communication is the key to this.
